The state of play : a conflicted world

Conflicts and wars are everywhere. At the international scale, war is raging in Ukrain between the Russian federation and Ukrain. Armed conflict are happening in Palestine, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, or in Yemen. All the great powers of the world are increasing their military expenses to face the capacity of their rivals. Since 2022, a new arm race has begun.

At the regional level, Europe feels more vulnerable than never against external threats coming essentially from the east. The reelection of Donald Trump as the president of the USA would mark a significant change in the american support to Europe, D. Trump and his surrounding being more concerned by the opposition with China than the costly and dragging on Ukrainian conflict. Alone, Europe is engaging in the path of industrialisation of defense capacities and the definition of a collaborative framework on this issue is and will be the topic of heated debates.

At the national level, in Belgium, the newly elected

At the local level, Brussels is facing challenges to integrate all the different national communities it hosts. Inhabitants have to cop with the drawbacks of the European institutions’ attraction : inflation not only on common commodities but also for housing, which has important sociological impacts on the diversity of the different districts of the capital city. Drug criminality is also source of insecurity.

At the community level, studies have demonstrated the concerning rise of selfishness, violence among families and…

At the individual level finally, there is a concerning rise of depression, anxiety and feeling of loneliness among the young generations.

In Palestine, in Ukraine, in our streets, in our countryside, in our home…wars and conflicts seems to be everywhere, and the challenges the world will have to face in the near futur are not make i

two profil looking on opposite directions.

In search for common understanding

Our answer : a collective initiative to highlight inspiring people’s actions for peace at every relevant level

Paisible is our respoonse to activelly face this challenge for peace. We’d like to provide information about people working in a way or another to make this world more peaceful. We would like that our readers, when they close our semestrial, believe that peace is a demanding but rewarding collective effort and not a mere ideal that would not be fit for our time.

Paisible, it is a group of seven young people working and leaving in Brussels who decided to come togther to make this newspaper crazy idea work. This is a non-profit initiative, based on our volunteering effort, and living thanks to people’s generosity. We sell our paper edition in order to cover the printing costs and have the fund to finance part of the next edition.

Moms are the ones who bandage our boo-boos when we’re little and continue to take care of us as we get older—often sacrificing their own needs so they can help with ours. Cruising on a bike to help heal our injuries is the most mom thing one can do.

They’re the ones we rely on for playdates and emotional support, homework help and babysitting. Moms are the ultimate dependable support. Like, hopefully, the button on your jeans.

My hero when I was a kid was my mom. Same for everyone I knew. Moms are untouchable. They’re elegant, smart, beautiful, kind…everything we want to be. At 29 years old, my favorite compliment is being told that I look like my mom. Seeing myself in her image, like this daughter up top, makes me so proud of how far I’ve come, and so thankful for where I come from.
